Process coupling

  • The calculation of binary and PBL nucleation rates requires information about the abundance of sulfuric acid gas in the ambient environment.
  • In MAM4, the mixing ratio of the sulfuric acid gas averaged within the current time step during the gas-aerosol exchange calculation is used for particle nucleation.
  • The uptake rate calculated during the gas-aerosol exchange calculation is used for nucleation growth.
  • The mixing ratio of gas phase sulfuric acid, the sulfuric aerosols in the Aitken mode and aerosol numbers in the Aitken mode will be updated after the nucleation calculations at each timestep.
